Offsite Rug Cleaning
By ProMatcher Staff
Why should I pay for offsite cleaning?
Although some area rugs can be cleaned on-site, many need to be taken offsite to be cleaned. You may need to drop off the rug at a cleaning facility, but in many cases, the carpet cleaners will include pick up and delivery in the cost of cleaning.
Area rugs and Oriental rugs often require special care. At an off-site facility, the rugs can be cleaned and restored with special equipment that will not damage their natural fibers. While some area rugs can be steam-cleaned onsite with the carpeting, others cannot handle the use of harsh chemicals and detergents. When the cleaner comes to your home to pick up the rug, they should give you a written cost estimate. At this time, the cleaner will inspect the rug and evaluate its current condition. You may want to discuss any special instructions for cleaning or you may point out any particularly tough stains.
At the cleaning facility:
1. The cleaners will first inspect the rug again to assess the level of cleaning needed. The cleaning process may begin with a preliminary vacuuming.
2. Next, they will test the rug material to make sure the cleaning agents will not damage the rug’s fibers. They will then treat stains that require extra special attention. For example, they may be able to remove stains caused by food and drinks, or even your pets.
3. Next, the rug will receive a deep cleaning. It may be hand-washed or submerged it in a “rug tub.” After this initial cleaning, the rug may be rinsed and washed again. It depends on how soiled the rug was prior to cleaning.
4. The rugs are then dried in a temperature-controlled space. After the rug has been dried completely, the cleaners will re-inspect the rug to make sure that all stains, dirt, and dust have been removed. Next, they will spruce up the edges and fringe of the rug before wrapping it up for pick-up or delivery.
Note: In some cases, it is not possible to remove all stains, no matter how many times it is cleaned.
